Intro to Lowrider Bike Build Class $1500.

~Course Overview

A two-weekend, hands-on class focused on customizing a lowrider bicycle frame. Students will work on a provided bike frame (not a complete bike) and learn basic fabrication, basic metal shaping, body work, and color finishing techniques. Emphasis is on basic structure, surface quality, and traditional lowrider style.

Weekend 1 – Fabrication & Metal Work

Safety & Shop Setup

  • Welding safety procedures

  • PPE requirements

  • Grinder and cutting tool safety

Frame Evaluation & Planning

  • Understanding bike frame structure

  • Planning sheet metal additions

  • Symmetry and balance in lowrider design

Sheet Metal Fabrication

  • Measuring and templating

  • Cutting and shaping sheet metal

  • Tack welding techniques

  • Basic MIG welding fundamentals

  • Grinding and smoothing welds

Structural Awareness

  • Avoiding warping

  • Maintaining frame integrity

  • Clean weld preparation

Metal Finishing

  • Smoothing weld seams

  • Surface leveling

Body Filler Application

  • Proper mixing and application

  • Shaping and block sanding

  • Refining contours

Surface Prep for Paint

  • Feather edging

  • Primer application (demo or guided use)

  • Final sanding for paint-ready surface

~Weekend 2 – Color Finish

Color Finish

  • Basic color application techniques

  • Graphics and Patterns

  • Solid color or simple two-tone layout

  • Intro to clean finish methods

Each student will:

  • Customize one bike frame

  • Add welded sheet metal details

  • Complete body work

  • Finish with color

  • Leave with a custom finished frame

Intro to Leafing Class $500

~Course Overview

A beginner, hands-on class introducing the fundamentals of traditional gold and silver leaf application. Students will learn surface preparation, adhesive techniques, proper leaf handling, and sealing methods used in automotive, signage, and decorative custom work.

This class focuses on clean application and basic layout — not advanced lettering or complex designs.

History & Application

  • Traditional use of gold and silver leaf in automotive and sign art

  • Differences between genuine gold leaf and imitation leaf

  • When to use gold vs. silver

Materials & Tools

  • Genuine gold leaf vs. imitation (composition) leaf

  • Silver leaf and tarnish considerations

  • Sizing (adhesive) types: oil-based vs. water-based

  • Gilding brushes and tools

  • Masking and layout basics

  • Sealing and protecting leaf

Surface Preparation

  • Preparing metal panels

  • Preparing painted surfaces

  • Cleaning and degreasing

  • Proper base color selection for best leaf effect

Leaf Application Techniques

  • Applying size correctly

  • Understanding tack time

  • Handling delicate leaf sheets

  • Laying leaf smoothly

Each student will:

  • Apply gold or silver leaf

  • Complete a small finished design

  • Seal and protect their work

  • Take home their finished panel
